Additional Expenses – APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance)
The APA covers all expenses incurred during the charter. All costs related to fuel and water consumption, food, beverages and alcoholic drinks, as well as port and canal fees, are charged in addition to the charter price. This is standard practice for luxury crewed yacht charters.
The client pays an advance amount that covers all these additional charges. The captain is responsible for managing these payments throughout the charter and providing the client with detailed receipts at the end of the trip. This amount, known as the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), is designed to enhance the level of service by allowing the client to enjoy the vacation without being distracted by daily expenses.
As a temporary expense, the APA typically ranges between 20% and 40% of the charter fee. Naturally, the required APA depends on the level of service and quality the client desires. Since a yacht vacation includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and alcohol, the APA can represent a substantial amount.
If, at the end of the charter, the full APA amount has not been used, the remaining balance is refunded to the client. Conversely, if additional expenses arise, the client will be asked to settle the outstanding balance on board before departure.
