Additional Expenses – APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) covers all expenses incurred during the vacation. All costs related to fuel and water consumption, food, beverages and alcoholic drinks, port and canal fees are charged in addition to the charter rate. This is standard practice when chartering luxury crewed yachts. The client pays an upfront amount for all these extra charges, and the captain is responsible for handling the payments and providing the client with detailed receipts at the end of the trip. This amount is called the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) and its purpose is to enhance the level of service by allowing the client to enjoy the holiday without worrying about daily expenses. As a temporary expense, the APA typically ranges between 20% and 40% of the charter fee. Naturally, the exact amount depends on the level of quality and service the client expects. Since a yacht holiday usually includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and alcohol, this becomes a significant amount of money. Of course, if the client does not use the full APA amount by the end of the holiday, the remaining balance is refunded. On the other hand, if additional expenses occur, the client will be asked to settle the outstanding balance on board before departure.
